I previously mentioned that the encooding quality that the zonebbs enforces on the files when uploading for a voice profile is quite shocking. However, here is a solution that might satisfy all parties involved. For those who have external hosting available, there may be an edit field available to instead of putting in a file to upload to the zonebbs servers, you put ina URL leading to an mp3 file somewhere on a network somewhere (EG. http://frozen.fishsplosh.com/profiles/voice/rachel.mp3) and then having amessage before going into the profile saying that "This profile is larger and may take longer to download" or something like that and then go into the normal profile window but rather than embedding the profile off the zonebbs we go and <embed src="http://frozen.fishsplosh.com/profiles/voice/rachel.mp3" autoplay=true controller=false>and such things of that nature. Could this work?
Chears,
Hayden
P.S.
Sorry about the spelling mistakes.
isn't audio just supposed to be a quick process? not to take long at all? to just be there so we don't waste our fucking time waiting for a download?
thats great saves space on the server
Gotta give ya credit, Hayden. You've thought this out well.
I like the idea personally.
Ya good idea, that would work for sure Then people wouldn't have a limit of 20 seconds, or 2 minutes if premium, cause the file would actually be hosted somewhere else other than the Zone servers
More than once, I've expressed my dislike of the final encoding specifications employed by the zone. So, from that standpoint, this is a fabulous idea.
Of course, there are issues of time and file size to consider, not to mention that most people probably don't want to wait a perceived eternity for a mere audio profile.
With that said, however, I don't think most people are going to host a 45 minute, 16Bit, 44.1KHZ wave, and the little bit of time spent waiting on a reasonably-sized file of good quality would definitely be worth it.
you want to put a link leading to audio of you up? Fine. Put it up. Put it up in the web site link. Problem solved! I think, that the profile thing should personally stay the way it is now.
I second Maddog's.
All one need do is put the url of your externally-stored audio and/or video somewhere in your text profile. You're done!
yeah! If you want to upload it to a different server, just put in the profile!
I think doing as maddog says makes a lot of sense.
